Place Portraits

Photography has always been one of my favorite ways to connect with people and places. When I was younger, I was in constant pursuit of portraits - a way I could speak to strangers and take a step into their worlds. As I have gotten older and moved to new cities, I have taken a step back, literally. When I moved to France after college, I felt a lot more anonymous than I ever had before - more like a figure trying to find space in my new surroundings, less like an up-close portrait. Instead of faces, I became fascinated by how people fill the spaces around them. This work is part of a series of anonymous people, making space for themselves all around the world. Taken in Paris and Biarritz, France, and New Hampshire, USA.
